No one really LOVES brushing their teeth, I get that.  I would rather hibernate for five more minutes than stand at bathroom sink, but brush I do.  I brush for the good of us all.  I brush because I smoke and because I drink Coffee and I brush because it's the nice thing to do.  After a long nights' slumber some kind of something builds up in there and frankly, it smells.

I work with a 20 something, a millennial, a Barney Kid.  He was told from birth that he was special.  He was given participation trophies and spirit awards and lots of orange slices at soccer games.  His self esteem was protected, coddled and, in my opinion, way overly developed.  He has been with our company for more than a year and wears the very same pants EVERY SINGLE DAY.  The pants smell.  The nasty little sneakers smell and most of all his breath is beyond pungent.  As a co-worker and not a boss, I certainly will not be the one to point this out.  The last time I pointed out something lil' Skipper did wrong I was given a good talkin to.  Turns out, lil' Skipper is sensitive.  I was told that while it wrong that lil" Skips STOLE A CLIENT he didn't mean to.  He did  it "on accident."  See, lil' Skipper is just a kid so he can make lil' mistakes like that.  He can be late EVERY DAY because his presence here is not noticed.  He has no responsibility.  No one counts on him to open the office or answer the phone or be held accountable like the rest of us because he is a MILD.  He is a Man-Child playing grown-up from 9-5.

My question is at what point will he assume responsibility for his life?  He complains persistently about his student loans because no one told him how expensive college was going to be.  I asked about the promissory notes that I, my college friends and my own children all signed and he said that no one really reads them.  I explained that my children know exactly how much they are borrowing and as such chose in State tuition options.  He chose a grossly expensive Engineering school where he majored in Education.  But that too was a mistake and ultimately, not his fault.

So it's not his fault he has loans.  It's not his fault that he is not on time to work.  It is not his fault that stole a client.  It is not his fault that he doesn't do Laundry.  I understand all of that but can we please agree that at least it's his fault that he doesn't brush his teeth?  Can we at least hold precious lil' Skippr accountable for that much?
